Despite not being able to plan while I wait anxiously for the Irish visa to be issued to visit my daughter in Dublin, I have been asked to do some training for a client’s management team.

The first session of the Big 5 Labour Legislation workshop with managers proved to be a huge success. It was, however, very interesting to note how little managers know about fair and unfair labour practices, fair and unfair dismissals, conditions of service, leave provisions and entitlements, and other important labour matters. Their feedback was how incredibly valuable this session was and how much more empowered they feel now, having such vital information for more effective management of their teams.

All managers have that 1 or 2 difficult employee who thinks they know it all! Oh, goodness, partial knowledge is more dangerous than ignorance itself!!! Managers MUST have the correct information and knowledge to deal with such challenges! It is a huge investment in a management team to gain the relevant, practical know-how and application of our labour legislation.
